Even with Busy
Schedules, Children Can Enjoy Building Skills at
Superior Martial Arts
Nesconset, N.Y.
– Parents seeking to give their children the
opportunity to build healthy bodies and strong
character with the excitement of martial arts
classes often face a difficult question: How do
they find several extra hours each week in the
family’s schedule?
Superior Martial
Arts has the answer. The school offers the
benefits of Kenpo karate for everyone from the
beginner with a crowded calendar to the
enthusiast who wants more time on the mats.
The new E-Z ONE
Program at Superior Martial Arts allows a
student to choose the youth class that best fits
his or her schedule and attend just once a week.
Each group lesson lasts for 45 minutes.
“We want children to
have fun,” says martial arts instructor and
veteran police officer Gregg Stevenson. “It’s
not about rushing them or causing burnout.”
Stevenson, whose
students refer to him as Sensei Gregg (a
Japanese title that means teacher), says
children can still be highly successful, even if
they’re only able to attend class once a week.
“We don’t want them to miss out on the benefits
of martial arts training just because of the
time commitment,” he says.
The classes at
Superior Martial Arts are designed to teach life
skills and foster accountability while engaging
children in a healthy, fun activity. “The kids
learn life skills by doing things like speaking
to the group and participating in charity food
drives. They also learn responsibility because
belt promotions involve feedback from parents
and teachers.”
Stevenson has many
years of experience working with children as a
Drug Abuse Resistance Education officer and
father of five, as well as assisting with his
children’s Little League and soccer teams. He
sees his martial arts instruction as an
opportunity to pass along the valuable skills
the training instilled in him.
“I was extremely shy in school,”
he says. “Martial arts training helped me
develop the confidence to become a police
officer and to speak in front of thousands of
kids and parents each year.”
